11/12 - 4/30 Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs Energy Bill Help

The Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs would like to encourage any Morris County resident struggling to meet their home energy bills to call the organization at 973-361-7878.  The MCOHA is federally funded and helps low income households meet their heating and cooling needs.  Open until April 30th, 2014 the MCOHA also has programs helping moderate income households that require help with electric and natural gas.  They have offices in Dover, Morristown and Butler or you can visit their website at www.mcoha.org

Bergen County’s only non-profit agency for victims of domestic violence, Shelter Our Sisters  provides services for both adults and children.  Not only do they offer shelter, but also services ranging from counseling, mentoring,  job training and therapy for children. 3/28 - 4/30 Help James Monroe Elementary School

The terrible fire that destroyed the James Monroe Elementary School in Edison has left New Jersey children without proper classrooms to explore the world and has left New Jersey teachers without proper supplies to help those children reach their full potential and goals.  They are currently holding class at Middlesex County College temporarily.  That is why they are asking for our help.  Saturday, March 29th, there will be a Stuff The Bus event at the Target in South Plainfield located at 5000 Hadley Center from Noon through 5PM where you can purchase and donate supplies.  Book donations are being accepted at Work Out World in the Menlo Park Mall through April 2nd. 4/7 - 5/12 Arthritis Tai Chi Program

The Somerset County Senior Wellness Center, located at 202 Mount Airy Road in Basking Ridge, will be offering a six-week long Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi Program for individuals 60 and over, Monday afternoons from 1:00-2:00 PM, from April 7th until May 12th. The six-week program is only $30, but space is limited, so for advanced registration or for more information, call Caitlin Witucki at (908)704-6346.

4/22 Spring Fever Zumba Party

Come out on Tuesday, April 22nd 7pm-9pm, for a Spring Fever Zumba Party hosted by The Evening Social Services Department of the Woman’s Club of Morristown. The event is located at the Woman’s Club headquarters at 51 South Street, Morristown. The event is open to the public and admission is free, but you are encouraged to donate a teddy bear. All bears will be given to the Goryeb Children’s Hospital, at the Morristown Medical Center. Donated bears must have their original tags. Bears without tags cannot be used by the hospital. The event will also provide information about Woman’s Club’s membership. Come out and have a night of fun in exchange for the gift of comfort. If you are unable to make it, but still wish to donate, your bears can be dropped off at the Woman’s Club on weekdays, 8am-8pm until Friday, April 25th, in the basket marked “Teddy Bears.”

4/24 Taste of Union

The Taste of Union event will be held on April 24th, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus located at 1034 Jeanette Avenue in Union. This year’s recipient is Nicole (Nicky) Martin.  Nicole was born with Cerebral Palsy and is non-ambulatory.  She is loved by all her teachers and peers; she is currently a senior at Union High School with a great 4.0 GPA.  She will be graduating in June and going to Union County College in Cranford, New Jersey in the fall.  Most recently her family purchased a minivan; unfortunately they cannot afford to have a  lift installed for Nicky's electric wheelchair.  This year’s goal is to assist the Martin family with the expenses for a lift to be put in the family’s minivan.  This purchase will help Nicole when her mother transports her to and from school.  For any questions contact Phyllis Monguso, Director of Senior Services at 908-851-5292.

4/24 Father John's Rescue Wine Pairing Dinner

On Thursday, April 24th, join us for a 5-Course Wine Pairing Dinner at Mattar’s Bistro located in Allamuchy, NJ. Tickets are $100 dollars and seating is limited to 80 people with prepaid reservations required  The wine tasting is to benefit Father John's Rescue. On Saturday April 26th from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM Morris Knolls High School will hold its Annual Spring Clothing Drive. Please drop off items outside the main entrance of the school. Items that are acceptable include: clothing, shoes, accessories, blankets, sheets, bedspreads, comforters, towels, rugs, stuffed animals and other hard toys. 4/26 24th Annual Town Wide Clean Up

Come out and join Morristown residents, businesses and friends on Saturday April 26th for the 24th Annual Town Wide Spring Clean-Up.  Participants will be rewarded with commemorative give- a ways and light breakfast will be served.  All people who want to volunteer will meet at the town hall rear parking lot 200 South Street at 9:00AM to register and receive their work assignments.  Please bring your own work gloves, rakes, and brooms.  A heavy rain date would be Sunday April 27th.  For more information call 973-644-4363.

4/27 The American Legion Riders of New Jersey Family Picnic & Fun Day

Susan G. 5/4 Pre- Mother’s Day All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Breakfast

On Sunday May 4th the Knights of Columbus, Council 5410, Blessed Mother Seton, in Flanders is sponsoring a Pre- Mother’s Day all you can eat Pancake Breakfast from 7:30 AM until 12:00 PM. This breakfast has great choices to choose from: Pancakes, French Toast, Eggs any style, fresh breakfast Sausage, Donuts, Muffins, Coffee Regular and Decaf, Tea, Milk, Hot Chocolate and Orange Juice. The location is at the Council Hall, 3 Schmitt Lanein Flanders; across from the train tracks from the Flanders Fire Company off Main Street. Donations are $6.50 for Adults, children 6-12 are $4.00 dollars and children 5 and younger are free. Proceeds are used for Knights of Columbus charity programs. 5/4 James Monroe Elementary School Teachers Fundraiser

On Sunday May 4th (Rain Date Sunday 11th) from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM come out to James Monroe Elementary School Papianni Park located at 100 Municipal Boulevard in Edison for a Teachers Fundraiser Car Show.  100% of the funds that are raised will go directly to the James Monroe Teachers Fund to aid the displaced teachers and students in supplying their classrooms, funding school activities, and continuing their schooling.  This event is free for people to watch with Food, Music, Door Prizes, and Family Fun!  Only $10.00 dollars for vehicle early registration; but must register by April 27th, 2014 for this deal.  During the day of the event it will cost $15.00 dollars but space is filling up fast!   For questions or to receive a registration form email jmscarshow@gmail.com. 5/10 Enright Melanoma Foundation 6th Annual Health Trek

Nearly 2,400 people were diagnosed with melanoma during 2012 in New Jersey alone and that number continues to grow in our state and in our country.  That’s why Enright Melanoma Foundation will be hosting the 6th Annual Health Trek on Saturday, May 10th right here in Morris County.  There will be 4 bike routes and a leisure walk trail that takes you through Morris County scenic park trails.  The bike routes range from a family friendly ride to a Metric Century trail that covers 62 miles for the most experienced rider!  Registration and breakfast begin at 7AM at Ginty Pool Recreation Complex located on South Street in Morris Township.  There will be a registration fee of $35 for adults (18+) and $15 for kids (under the age of 18).  To register and for more details about the event visit their website at www.enrightmelanomafoundation.org.
