Become a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children
In 2007 there were 299 children in Morris and Sussex counties who were removed
from their homes because of abuse and/or neglect. These children have no voice.
CASA volunteers work with one child at a time, ensuring that each one receives
the services needed and moves to a permanent, safe home in as short a time as
possible. CASA volunteers don’t require any specific education. All they need is
compassion, objectivity and a commitment to children. Volunteers receive
training and staff support from CASA of Morris and Sussex Counties, Inc. Your
time and efforts can do so much to make a difference in the life of one of these
children. Become a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children. Our next
training will be in winter 2009.

Chilton Memorial Hospital to Hold Second Tree Lighting
Ceremony
with the Pequannock High School Band The Chilton Memorial Hospital
Auxiliary invites the community to honor or remember a loved one with the
purchase of a light on its “Tree of Lights.” The lighting of the tree will take
place on Tuesday, December 2, at 5:30 p.m., followed by holiday music from the
Pequannock High School band. The Tree of Lights is an annual tradition,
currently in its 18th year, and 2008 marks the second year that a ceremony
commemorated the event. Chilton President and CEO Deborah K. Zastocki, DNP, RN
will light the tree.
In 2006, Chilton Memorial Hospital planted a 14-foot Blue Spruce along the main
driveway. The new tree is standing strong and is now surrounded by benches and a
brick walkway. The success of the Tree of Lights and other fundraising events
facilitated the Auxiliary’s pledge of $500,000 toward the renovation of Chilton
Memorial Hospital’s Family Care Center.
The Auxiliary has donated approximately $4 million to Chilton Memorial Hospital
since it was founded. The group operates the Hospital’s Gift Gallery. Funds are
also raised through such events as theater outings, Smoke Rise House Tour,
“Heartfelt Excellence” fashion show, the Hospital’s Memorial Brick Walk and the
“Give and Receive” basket raffle for Chilton employees. Auxiliary meetings
provide opportunities for fund-raising, education and socialization. Membership
is open to all individuals interested in serving the hospital and the community.
For more information about the Auxiliary, or to purchase a light for the tree,
please call (973) 831-5345.

Chilton Memorial Hospital Dietician Provides Free Facts
About Fad Diets
on December 3
Lets face it: women are obsessed with weight loss. Everyone is talking about the
latest and greatest diets advertised on commercials, television shows and
magazines. But, are any of them worth trying? Chilton Memorial Hospital’s
“Inspire for Women!” program offers a free class to provide the facts about fad
diets. “Fit or Fiction” will be held on Wednesday, December 3, from 7 p.m. to 8
p.m., at Chilton Health Network, 242 West Parkway, Pompton Plains (just 1.5
miles down the street from the Hospital), in the Second Floor Conference Center.
Chilton Memorial Hospital Clinical Dietitian Christina Lavner, RD, will offer
valuable information about what diets are the best choice, the likelihood of
sticking with a fad diet, what happens when you go off the fad diet and what is
a good diet overall. She will also speak about proper portion sizes and healthy
ways to lose the weight.
Fad diets promise quick results and are easy to implement. The one thing they
have in common is that they seldom promote sound weight loss. More importantly,
the results tend to last for only a short period of time and require extra
weight maintenance if used long term. Join us for a discussion about popular fad
diets such as Atkins, low salt, South Beach, Flat belly and The Zone, and learn
for yourself which ones actually work.
For more information, or to register, call Chilton Memorial Hospital Health
Educators Lauren Schuitema, CHES at (973) 831-5433 or Jasalyn King, CHES at

Chilton Memorial Hospital’s “Inspire! for Women” and “New Vitality”
programs invites the community to an informative evening with NBC News Chief
Medical Editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman on Thursday, December 9, at 7 p.m. at the
Woodland Conference Center at Cedar Crest Village, 1 Cedar Crest Village Drive,

Thousands of medical myths, learned everywhere from grandmothers to the
Internet, make it difficult to know what to do when it comes to health and daily
self-care. Dr. Snyderman will discuss current medical mythology regarding
health, medical care and longevity. Along the way, she will provide 101 truths,
facts and tips that will ensure we learn how to live happier, healthier, more
fulfilled lives. Dr. Snyderman will cut through the confusion and arm attendees
with what they really need to know in order to thrive every day.
Seen on the Today Show and known to millions of viewers worldwide, Dr.
Snyderman is also the co-founder of Lluminari and a respected head and neck
cancer surgeon. Her newest book, “Medical Myths That Can Kill You – And the 101
Truths That Will Save, Extend and Improve Your Life,” will be available for
